Dr. Anastas Vangeli is an Assistant Professor in International Business at the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, and a member of the European Think Tank Network on China (ETNC). He is Associate Editor of Asia Europe Journal, co-editor of the volume Yugoslavia and China: Histories, Legacies, Afterlives (Routledge, 2025), and currently co-leads a research project on Europe’s transition to electric vehicles supported by the Independent Social Research Foundation. He is also affiliated with the EU-Asia Institute, ESSCA School of Management, Angers, France and the TOChina Hub, Turin, Italy.
His research focuses on the intersection of globalization and geopolitics, with particular attention to the rise and impacts of Global China, the dynamics of China–Europe business and political relations, the diffusion of ideas and their policy and managerial consequences across space and time, and the interplay between past, present, and future in global political and economic affairs. Originally from Macedonia where he won the Presidential Award for Best Young Scholar in the Social Sciences in 2020, Anastas has studied and worked in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Warsaw, Budapest, Brussels, and other global cities, and brings a worldly and interdisciplinary outlook on contemporary debates on pressing issues.In 2019 he held a solo exhibition of his works, Discovering the Black Box, at the DESSA Gallery. In 2022 and 2023 he received the BIGSEE Interior Design Award for residential renovations. In 2025 he curated the SEE in Venice panel at the BIG Architecture Conference, bringing together regional representatives from national pavilions at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
